Residents at Oldbury Grange Care Home in Bridgnorth enjoyed a sun-soaked escape without leaving home as the team transformed the residence into a vibrant Greek island retreat for its much-anticipated Greek Week celebrations.
Inspired by the feel-good energy of Mamma Mia! the home embraced all things Mediterranean, creating a week filled with colour, music, food and laughter for residents and their families and friends.
The main lounge was transformed into a stunning Santorini-style courtyard, complete with whitewashed scenery draped with vines and bright pink bougainvillea. Beautifully decorated tables created the perfect atmosphere for residents to relax and socialise. The activities programme included mosaic making workshops, allowing residents to create their own Greek-inspired artwork.
A Mediterranean food tasting session proved particularly popular, offering residents a delicious taste of Greece with falafels, tzatziki, flatbreads, olives and stuffed vine leaves on the menu. Colourful fruit cocktails and traditional Greek tea were served while Mamma Mia! was projected onto the walls, filling the home with music and sing-along moments.
One of the week’s highlights was the imaginative travel experience organised by the team. An aeroplane backdrop set the scene as residents packed their suitcases and had their passports stamped before “flying” off for sunnier shores. The Oldbury Grange team and residents dressed for the occasion in summer clothes with beach hats, sunglasses and beach balls adding to the holiday spirit.
Activities coordinator, Mandy Bullock, said, “We had an absolute blast this week as we transformed Oldbury Grange into a beautiful Greek holiday destination. There was a great party atmosphere in the home with families and friends joining in the holiday spirit and every day brought a new adventure.”
Resident Sheila Redmond added, “The team has really surpassed themselves this week with a brilliant and very creative range of activities and entertainment. We all have nostalgia for holidays we’ve enjoyed in the past, so it was wonderful to still be able to make new memories. I can’t wait to see what they come up with for China Week!”
